Weather analysis and routing for long distance sailing.
For long-distance sailors and on extended sea crossings, continuous weather analysis is an essential part of safe and efficient trip planning. Using my current transatlantic voyage as an example, I will explain and discuss in detail the process of weather navigation and weather routing. This involves assessing weather developments, analyzing route suggestions, and identifying critical areas and strong wind zones early on to exclude them from the route planning. The presentation provides practical insights into various strategies for avoiding severe weather and making the most of prevailing weather conditions. The analyses are based on the PredictWind routing and weather platform, as well as the globally recognized ECMWF and GFS weather models.
