This week I put a battered old oak log on the lathe — one that looked more like firewood than anything worth keeping. With a grumpy face full of cracks and scars, it didn’t seem like much at first. But through the process of turning, shaping, and sanding, the log revealed surprising beauty hidden beneath its rough exterior.
