Le travail et l'émancipation des femmes

Women workers in the Middle Ages, women's labor, medieval history, women's crafts, medieval economy, and women's autonomy: this video debunks myths about the housewife. From the 10th to the 16th centuries, women worked in agriculture, crafts, trade, textiles, brewing, publishing, and construction, often independently. This history of women's work shows how women were gradually excluded from independent work at the end of the Middle Ages. Contrary to popular belief, medieval women fully participated in wealth creation, both in towns and in the countryside. They ran businesses, inherited property, brewed beer, and worked in textiles, metalworking, and construction, sometimes earning equal wages with men. Between the 15th and 16th centuries, economic specialization, guilds, and legal prohibitions led to the gradual exclusion of women from independent work. This video shows how the loss of economic autonomy leads to dependency, precariousness, and the reinforcement of gender roles, well before the modern era. 👇 Subscribe for more videos and turn on notifications so you don't miss anything! 🔔 💬 Leave a comment and a like ❤️ ✨ Chapters: 00:00:00 Introduction 00:58:04 AUTONOMY (10th-14th CENTURIES) - EVERYWHERE 05:27:10 AUTONOMY (10th-14th CENTURIES) - INDEPENDENT WOMEN 09:04:17 GRADUAL EMPTYING (15th-16th CENTURIES) - THE MECHANISMS OF EMPTYING 13:52:23 GRADUAL EMPTYING (15th-16th CENTURIES) - PRECARITY AND DEPENDENCE 15:41:23 CONCLUSION 🔖 Hashtags : #Women'sWork #MiddleAges #Women'sHistory #WomenAtWork #MedievalHistory #Crafts #MedievalEconomy #Women'sWork #Witches #Autonomy 🎯 Keywords: working women in the Middle Ages, women's work, women's history, medieval women, medieval crafts, women's work, medieval economy, women and work, brewers, weavers, medieval guilds, witches, exclusion of women, economic autonomy, social history 📖 Bibliography: Sylvie Le Clech, Women of the Renaissance, They Fought for Their Freedom, Texto Publishing Edited by Georges Duby & Michel Perrot, History of Women in the West II.
