How to Make an Early Regency Era Dress
In this historical sewing tutorial I will show you how I made an early Regency Era Dress using Simplicity Pattern by American Duchess S8941 and the American Duchess Guide to 18th Century Dress Making. This dress is most fashionable for the years 1795-1805. This style of dress has a high empire waistline and is described as a "Round Gown." A Round gown in the regency era can best be defined as a dress with a bodice and skirt joined to create a single garment. Hence, it goes all the way around. It does not open in the front to show a petticoat. This round gown made of white muslin is very similar to the styles of the Chemise a la Reine that were popular in the decade prior, and certainly take inspiration from the style, but are uniquely their own. I love how the muslin gathers in this dress and creates a skirt perfect for billowing in the wind. I had dreamed of creating a dress like this for quite awhile now and am very happy to have made one.
