This is Volume 2 of a gentle collection of original romantic waltzes, composed in a warm, lyrical style inspired by the elegance of 19th‑century ballroom music. The waltz began its life far more modestly than the glittering ballrooms we associate it with today. Its roots lie in the folk dances of Central Europe, especially the Ländler and Dreher, rustic dances from Austria, Bavaria, and the Alpine regions. These early dances already had the characteristic turning motion and the 3/4 pulse that would later define the waltz. By the late 18th century, the waltz started to move from the countryside into the cities. In Vienna, it transformed into something new: a smoother, more elegant, more flowing dance that allowed couples to turn continuously across the floor. This was revolutionary — and even controversial — because it was one of the first dances where partners held each other closely. In the early 19th century, the waltz exploded in popularity. Vienna became its capital, and composers began writing music specifically for this new dance style. The turning point came with the rise of the Strauss dynasty, especially Johann Strauss I and his son Johann Strauss II, the “Waltz King”. Their music elevated the waltz from simple dance music to a form of orchestral art, full of melody, charm, and sophistication. By the mid‑1800s, the waltz had become the soundtrack of European social life. Grand ballrooms, glittering chandeliers, swirling gowns — the waltz defined an era of elegance and romance. It spread across Europe and eventually the world, influencing composers from Chopin to Tchaikovsky, who brought the waltz into the concert hall and the ballet stage.
