Hymn to Osiris Sung in Middle Egyptian
A modern hymn sung in reconstructed Middle Egyptian for the God Osiris, Lord of the Dead. Written and translated into Middle Egyptian by AliStrnad, my friend and student Egyptologist, and phonetically reconstructed, composed, and performed by me, Siamun. I specifically created this melody to include clapping, which both was and is an integral part to native Egyptian/Nubian music. I talk more about the process of reconstruction on Patreon for those that are interested: https://www.patreon.com/radioacolyte/... ---------------------------------- The art at the end is done by: 1: @/buggeeart on Instagram, Tumblr, and Bluesky. I've featured their art previously in Nefertum's hymn and I am beyond excited to be able to include their beautiful illustration of Osiris in this hymn's video, as well! 2: @/jesterpepita on Instagram. One of my favourite depictions of Osiris, so I am also thrilled to be able to include their version of Osiris in this video, too! (as well as in the thumbnail!) Both of these artists have given me permission to use their art so thank you very much to them, and please go check them out! ---------------------------------- This is a very special hymn because it is my first hymn written and performed on the Leiden Lyre, reconstructed and crafted by the Luthieros at @SEIKILO based off of surviving examples of the box lyre found in Upper Egypt. ---------------------------------- Lyrics: English: Greetings to You, Osiris, Foremost of the West, Great Ruler in the District of the Silent Land, Lord of Abydos, Busiris and All His Places, Numerous of Forms in Heaven and on Earth. You are the Eldest Son of Geb and Nut, Who Illuminated His Siblings in the Womb. You Came Forth from the Womb a Golden Child, The Uraeus (Already) Coiled Upon Your Head. Your Mother Raised You Upon Her Lap, And You Received the Inheritance of Your Father. You Exercised the Kingship in the Entire Land, Giving Orders as far as the Sun Disk’s Rays. You Made a Good Landing in the Sacred Land, After Your Brother Seth Laid You Low in Nedit. It was Your Sister Isis Who Reunited Your Limbs, And Your Son Horus Who Felled Your Enemy. You are the Judge in the God’s Domain, Who Loves Maat and Detests Wrongdoing, Who Directs the Akhu to the Place that He Loves, And Brings an End to Those Who Plot Evil. You are in the Barque in the Field of Offerings; You Take Care of the Akhu who are in it. They Worship You when You Come to Them; You are their Lord, Who Creates their Life. You are the Founder of the Two Riverbanks, Who Fertilises the Land with His Outflows, Causing the Field to Grow at its Proper Time, Creating Provisions for Gods and People. Your Ba is Sah (Orion) in the Southern Sky, Crossing Heaven Rejuvenated Each Day, Your Sister Sopdet as Your Protection, The Decan Stars Sailing in Your Wake. You Repeat Appearances as Iah (Moon), The Left Eye of Ra, The Pillar in the Sky, Who Illuminates the Night like the Daytime, And Rejuvenates His Form Every Month.
