ATP Exam Prep 12: Test Taking Skills & Strategy
Welcome to Session 12 of the Adaptive Solutions ATP Exam Prep Series: Test-Taking Skills & Strategy — How to Read ATP Questions Like a Test Writer This is the final session of the series, and instead of adding another content domain, we’re focusing on something just as important: How to actually take the ATP exam. By this point in the course, we’ve covered the major areas of the RESNA ATP service delivery process: Assessment of Need Developing Intervention Strategies Implementation of Intervention Evaluation & Follow-Up Professional Conduct & Ethics Now we’re pulling everything together into a practical test-taking framework. Because the ATP exam is not just testing whether you know equipment. It is testing whether you can read a scenario, identify the phase of the process, understand what the question is really asking, and avoid answer choices that are premature, outside scope, too device-focused, or missing the actual barrier. In Session 12, you’ll learn: ✅ How to read ATP exam questions more strategically ✅ How to identify command words like FIRST, NEXT, BEST, and MOST IMPORTANT ✅ Why the command word can completely change the answer ✅ How to recognize which phase of the RESNA service delivery process is being tested ✅ How to name the actual barrier in a question ✅ How to eliminate tempting but incorrect answers ✅ Why referral language is not the same as a final recommendation ✅ How to avoid device-first thinking ✅ Why “replace the device” is often premature ✅ How scope, ethics, environment, and follow-up issues show up inside normal-looking questions High-Yield Test-Taking Strategies Covered: Finding the command word Identifying the service delivery phase Separating relevant details from distraction details Recognizing premature answers Avoiding over-engineered solutions Eliminating scope-of-practice violations Spotting environment and support-system traps Choosing answers that are safe, defensible, and process-aligned The Core Strategy When you read an ATP question, slow down and ask: What is the command word? What phase are we in? What is the actual barrier? Which answers are premature? Which answers are outside ATP scope? Which answer best moves the process forward? That is the mindset this entire course has been building toward. Who This Is For: ATP exam candidates Seating & mobility specialists Occupational therapists Physical therapists Speech-language pathologists Rehab technology suppliers Assistive technology professionals Anyone preparing for the RESNA ATP certification exam If you’re serious about passing the ATP exam, don’t just memorize equipment.
