Behind the popularity of the Serampang Dua Belas Dance, known throughout Indonesia, lies a figure who has dedicated his life to preserving and spreading Malay culture. He is Guru Sauti, an artist, educator, and cultural preserver born in Pantai Cermin, Serdang, on May 16, 1903. Throughout a long journey that began during the Dutch East Indies, the Japanese occupation, and the early days of Indonesian independence, Guru Sauti has continuously championed the Serampang Dua Belas Dance to gain wider recognition. He has performed in numerous important performances, introduced Malay culture to President Sukarno and First Lady Fatmawati, taught national figures, led an Indonesian cultural mission to the People's Republic of China, and spread Serampang Dua Belas to various regions across the archipelago. However, despite the vast cultural legacy he left behind, Guru Sauti's name has slowly faded over time. Through this documentary, we will explore his life story, based on original historical documents, recounting the journey of a cultural figure whose contributions live on today through every movement of the Serampang Dua Belas Dance.
