Originally approved in 1981, the project faced decades of delays but has recently seen massive acceleration after being reviewed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the PRAGATI platform.Here is the latest progress report as of early 2026:Section-Wise Construction StatusNangal Dam to Daulatpur Chowk (60 km): Status: Fully Commissioned.Trains are actively running on this route, providing crucial connectivity to the region (including services terminating at Daulatpur Chowk and Amb Andaura).Daulatpur Chowk to Kartoli, Punjab (10.5 km): Status: Completed.All civil works and track laying for this intermediate stretch have been successfully finished.Kartoli to Talwara (13.65 km): Status: Under Construction.Work is progressing rapidly on multiple components. A massive 9.2 km viaduct is currently being built, alongside one major bridge, seven minor bridges, and several road over/under bridges.Talwara to Mukerian (28.7 km): Status: Nearing Completion.This historic route (which was originally laid for the Pong Dam construction but dismantled in the 1990s) is almost fully revived.About 70% of the work on the 13 major bridges is completed.29 out of 40 Road Under Bridges (RUBs) have been built.2 out of 3 planned station buildings are fully constructed.Have trains started reaching Talwara?As of now, commercial passenger trains have not yet reached Talwara Railway Station. Current train services operate up to Daulatpur Chowk.
