ಪೆಲಕಾಯಿ ಗಟ್ಟಿ Jackfruit Gatti

ಲಕಾಯಿ ಗಟ್ಟಿ (Pelakayi Gatti) ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ (ತುಳುನಾಡು ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ) ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಮಳೆಗಾಲದ ತಿಂಡಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಹಲಸಿನ ಹಣ್ಣಿನ ಕಡುಬು ಅಥವಾ ಹಲಸಿನ ಹಣ್ಣಿನ ಗಟ್ಟಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಸಾಗುವಾನಿ ಎಲೆ (Teak leaves) ಅಥವಾ ಬಾಳೆ ಎಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುತ್ತಿ ಹಬೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಯಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಾಗುವಾನಿ ಎಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಯಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಗಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಕೆಂಪು-ಕಿತ್ತಳೆ ಬಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಸುವಾಸನೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. Pelakayi Gatti is a highly popular and traditional monsoon snack from coastal Karnataka (the Tulu Nadu and Mangalore regions). In Kannada, it is commonly referred to as Halasina Hannina Kadubu or Halasina Hannina Gatti (Jackfruit Dumpling). It is usually wrapped in teak leaves or banana leaves and then steam-cooked. Steaming it in teak leaves imparts a beautiful reddish-orange color and a distinct, unique aroma to the gatti.
