Será Que Você É Real?

Are You Real? Science Has a Disturbing Answer. You feel you exist inside your body, possess continuous memories, and observe the world from a single “self.” But does this experience perfectly represent reality? In this science documentary, we investigate how the brain constructs the perception of reality, consciousness, and the sense of identity. Through real neuroscience experiments, you will discover how the sensation of possessing a body can be modified, how researchers have managed to induce illusions similar to out-of-body experiences, and why autobiographical memory is so important for personal identity. We also analyze what studies with split-brain patients have revealed about the apparent unity of consciousness. These experiments don't prove you don't exist, much less that we live in a simulation. They show something more fascinating: what we call “self” depends on the continuous integration of vision, touch, internal signals, memory, and brain activity. So, are you real? Science still cannot definitively answer metaphysical questions about the ultimate nature of reality. However, it manages to investigate how the experience of being a person arises—and the discoveries transform the way we see the body, mind, and consciousness. Watch until the end to understand why saying that the “self” is a construct of the brain doesn't mean you're being fake. Perhaps it means that your identity is much more dynamic, flexible, and extraordinary than it seems.
