Polarization Birefringence
Here the beauty of various birefringent materials under crossed polarizers is demonstrated. You can also see strain-induced birefringence in isotropic materials. The beautiful colors arise due to different wavelength undergoing different thickness-dependent phase shift between the ordinary and extraordinary beams , which means that some colors are blocked whereas others are transmitted under crossed polarizers.
