TDP; transl. Party of the Telugu Land)[15] is an Indian regional political party primarily active in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.[16] It was founded by Telugu matinée idol N. T. Rama Rao (NTR) on 29 March 1982[17] and has focused on supporting Telugu people. The party has won a six-time majority in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and has emerged as the most successful political outfit in the state's history. It is currently the ruling party in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.[18][19] From 1 September 1995, the TDP was led by N. T. Rama Rao's son-in-law, Nara Chandra Babu Naidu as the national president of the party. The headquarters of the party is called N. T. R. Bhavan, which is located at Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh. The Praja Rajyam Party (abbr. PRP; transl. People's Rule Party) was a regional political party in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It was founded by Telugu film actor Chiranjeevi on 26 August 2008, with the stated aim of providing a people centric alternative to the existing political establishment.[4] The party positioned itself on a platform of social justice, anti-corruption and inclusive development but struggled to translate popular enthusiasm into sustained electoral success.[5] Following its poor performance in the 2009 elections, PRP gradually declined and ultimately merged with the Indian National Congress (INC) in 2011. The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (lit. 'Youth, Labour, and Farmer Congress Party', YSRCP or YCP),[7] often shortened to simply the YSR Congress Party, is an Indian regional political party based in the state of Andhra Pradesh.[8] The party was initially registered with Election Commission of India by Kolishetti Shiva Kumar. Thereafter, the party was taken over by its current president, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy,[9][10][11][12][13] having served as the state's chief minister from 2019-2024. It currently has 4 seats in the Lok Sabha. The NTR Telugu Desam Party (Lakshmi Parvathi) (abbr. NTRTDP-LP) was a regional political party in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It was founded by Lakshmi Parvathi, the second wife of the film star and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder N. T. Rama Rao (NTR) in 1996. The party was formed after NTR's death to counter the TDP but failed to make any significant electoral impact. In 2014, Parvathi joined the YSR Congress Party and NTRTDP-LP was delisted by the Election Commission of India in 2016. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (transl. Indian National Council; abbr. BRS), formerly known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (transl. Telangana National Council; abbr. TRS), is an Indian political party predominantly active in the state of Telangana and currently the primary opposition party in the state. Founded on 27 April 2001 by K. Chandrashekar Rao, it has a single-point agenda of creating a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh, with Hyderabad as its capital.[14] It has been instrumental in carrying forth a sustained agitation for the granting of statehood to Telangana which was realized in 2014.[15] The party won the majority of seats in the 2014 Telangana Assembly Election, forming the first government of the State with K. Chandrashekar Rao as its chief minister. The party won 11 seats in the 2014 general election, making it the eighth largest party in Lok Sabha, the lower house (lok sabha) of the Indian Parliament. After a landslide victory in the 2018 Telangana Legislative Assembly election, the party formed the government in the State for the second time.[16] In the 2019 Indian general election, the party's tally had fallen to nine seats in the Lok Sabha.[17] Later on 5 October 2022, the name of the party was changed from Telangana Rashtra Samithi to Bharat Rashtra Samithi to foray into national politics.[18][19] After suffering a decisive defeat in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election, the party was restricted to winning only 39 seats in the state of Telangana,[20] while failing to win any seats in the 2024 Indian general election. As of 2025, the party holds four seats in the upper house, Rajya Sabha.[21]
