Aracaju: por que a gente fala tão pouco dela? | #405

There are capitals in Brazil that hardly ever appear in the media—and sometimes that’s exactly where the best surprise lies. In this episode, I arrive in Aracaju with some doubts and start discovering the city at the right pace: walking through downtown, feeling the market, diving into history… and realizing there’s a “discreet” Aracaju that offers much more than it promises. There’s the urban and human side: the squares, the Cathedral, the Public Market that brings back memories and affection, and the unlikely encounter with history—including Maria Feliciana (2.25m tall), who changes the scale of what we think we know about a place. And then there’s the side of those arriving by sea: the conversation about the Sergipe River, the estuary, the rock embankment that has “fixed” the entrance more in recent years and what that might have changed regarding sedimentation. In the end, there’s that nice feeling: Aracaju doesn’t shout…but speaks beautifully to those who pay attention.
