These were times of profound social transition in Argentina. It was the month when citizens were once again democratically electing their representatives to the three branches of government after seven years of military rule. And this was quite evident in the television commercials. The "unveiling" was imminent, although there had already been a taste of it with a scandalous (at the time) advertisement for Hitachi televisions a year earlier. Television still reflected a great deal of innocence in its product advertising, and most commercials addressed their audience with the formal "usted," a practice that continued until almost the mid-1990s. What you're about to see in this video is a compilation of several commercials from the old Channel 13, mixing video, telescreen graphics with live announcers, and the memorable film clips shown on the channel's telecine, whose sound was already beginning to crackle with the very first commercial. There are several debuts: the first Coca-Cola ad with the slogan "That's how it is" (we never found out what sport the girls desperately chasing after a bottle were playing), the first Purecica ad before Tetra Pak had even arrived in the country, the memorable Arno toaster jingle that introduced the brand, the Patrick refrigerator with its temporary new name of "Patrik," the first ad for Póxipol's revolutionary Voligoma school glue promoted in gibberish, the Peronist newspaper "La Época" that was only on the streets for a month and a half before ceasing publication when the Radical Party's Alfonsín swept the elections... And speaking of elections, there are also the main campaigns of three presidential candidates (none of whom are still with us today). In addition, there's the perfect moment to sell Limzul soap as if it were a political candidate, the craze for collectible booklets, and the classic record promotions; Two EMI releases and one Interdisc release, both catalogs now belonging to Universal. Also included is a shortened version of one of the best Argentine car commercials ever: the Ford Taunus chase in the port of Buenos Aires. This video was edited to show a commercial break exactly as it appeared on television, with the ads arranged from individual clips uploaded to YouTube. In other words, if you didn't experience that era, what you see is exactly how television looked 33 years ago. There are some editing liberties, such as the final seconds at the end with the "Child Protection" and "Channel 13 Presents" title card, likely from the drama "Compromiso," which aired Monday nights. Thanks to the radio station for their assistance in editing this gem, which we are now sharing with you all. #television #Argentina #80s
