L’Impronta di carbonio del mondo digitale | Giovanna Sissa | TEDxPordenone

The climate crisis is worsening, and we increasingly realize that every sector and activity has an environmental impact. We think that taking the train is better than flying, or that trees are important and should be planted. That the places we live must be more energy efficient. We prefer electric vehicles, or choose public transportation over private transportation, or ride a bicycle. All behaviors that help us reduce the carbon emissions we produce. Meanwhile, we live immersed in a digital world, constantly, and it seems that everything digital is immaterial and therefore has no impact on the environment: with the carbon footprint in the digital world, Giovanna Sissa tells us that digital technology also has its impact. Giovanna Sissa, a physicist with a PhD in computer science, is an adjunct professor in the PhD program "Science and Technology for Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering" at the University of Genoa, teaching the course "Interdisciplinary Dimension of Environmental Sustainability in ICT." For years, she has been involved in research on digital innovation and the environmental, social, cultural, and political impacts of the Internet, publishing books and articles, both scientific and popular. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
