One Great Label: My Favorite ECM Albums, 1971 - 1980
Manfred Eicher founded ECM, Edition of Contemporary Music in 1969 and began producing a non-stop stream of exceptional recordings, by combining high production standards with close collaborations with musicians, who were given the freedom to create the music they wanted to create. During the 1970's the label put out many albums that have become classics. This video identifies my personal favorites from that period, albums I discovered way back when or in the decades since. A small sampling of what ECM offers. I've put samples of each album in the background as I discuss each very briefly, to give you a taste. I expect to do individual videos on these eventually, as part of my One Great Album series.
