Campus der Zukunft Teil 2: Gemeinsam planen, Ressourcen sparen - University:Future Festival 2026
Campus of the Future Part 2: Planning Together, Saving Resources: A discussion by Larissa Rossbacher, Fabian Lüthi, and Mirjam Pfenninger at the University:Future Festival 2026. Universities are expert organizations: In teaching, research, construction, and operations, they have highly qualified specialists with many years of experience. However, this knowledge about university infrastructure is only shared to a limited extent across institutions – the exchange between universities is often informal and dependent on individuals and projects. Documents, foundational information, and project experience are difficult to find and therefore only partially usable. We show how the planned "Inter-University Competence Center for Digital Spatial Issues" aims to close this gap: Conferences, working groups, and a shared knowledge platform promote networking, exchange, and collaboration among experts (peer-to-peer). The "LabSpaces Swiss Alliance" project serves as a case study: Three Swiss universities (UZH, UniBE & UniBas) are jointly developing a spatial concept for laboratory-based teaching and research infrastructure – and can thus share the costs among themselves. // The sixth edition of the University:Future Festival took place from June 22–24, 2026, under the motto "Under Pressure!" The physical locations of the hybrid festival were Berlin, Braunschweig, Essen, Graz, Hamburg, and Nuremberg. The University:Future Festival (U:FF) is the largest event on the (digital) future of academic education. Topics include AI, future skills, didactics, and strategic processes. Participants enjoyed a diverse program with approximately 280 presentations from around 550 speakers! The University:Future Festival is a collaboration between the Higher Education Forum on Digitalization, the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education, and the Stifterverband (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany). The partner stages were organized by the Emerging Tech Lab and the Media Lab of the TU Braunschweig Project House, ORCA.nrw, Graz University of Technology, Ohm and UTN Nuremberg, and the University of Hamburg, together with OERCamp.
