DESAFIO !!! Átomos, íons, moléculas, radicais livres, vc sabe o que são?????
Basic chemistry is a fundamental branch of science that studies the composition, properties, and transformations of matter. It is essential for understanding the world around us, from biological processes to the physical and chemical phenomena that occur in our daily lives. One of the most important concepts in basic chemistry is the atom. The atom is the smallest unit of a chemical element that still retains its characteristic properties. It consists of a central nucleus, which contains protons (positively charged particles) and neutrons (uncharged particles), and an electron cloud surrounding the nucleus, composed of electrons (negatively charged particles). Atoms are represented by symbols, such as H for hydrogen, O for oxygen, and Na for sodium. When two or more atoms combine, they form a molecule. Molecules are units formed by two or more atoms, whether of the same element or different elements. For example, the water molecule (H2O) is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Molecules can be represented by chemical formulas, such as CO2 for carbon dioxide or C6H12O6 for glucose. Ions are atoms or molecules that have acquired an electrical charge due to the gain or loss of electrons. When an atom loses electrons, it becomes a positive ion, called a cation. For example, sodium (Na) loses an electron and becomes the sodium cation (Na+). Conversely, when an atom gains electrons, it becomes a negative ion, called an anion. For example, chlorine (Cl) gains an electron and becomes the chloride anion (Cl-). Ions play important roles in chemical reactions and electrical conduction in ionic solutions. Free radicals are atoms or molecules that have an unpaired electron in their outer shell. These unpaired electrons make free radicals highly reactive and can cause damage to cells and biological molecules. Oxidative stress caused by free radicals is believed to be associated with aging and the development of diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. Antioxidants, such as vitamin C and vitamin E, can neutralize free radicals and reduce their harmful effects. In short, basic chemistry studies atoms, molecules, ions, and free radicals. Understanding these concepts is essential to understanding the properties of matter and the chemical reactions that occur around us.
