Sharpening the new 刃主 Kamisori

The first Kamisori of our own line — the result of a long, careful development with a master smith in Kyōto, handmade to our specification in a first small batch - 10 pieces. Housed in an engraved paulownia box and wrapped in an original Karacho Furoshiki made of pure Japanese silk. 白紙鋼 – Shirogami・White Paper Steel forms the cutting layer, forged onto a soft steel body that makes up the hilt and base. The result is an extremely fine, easily refined edge on a forgiving, stable body. The size is medium by deliberate choice. Out of several hundred Kamisori we have restored, this is the most versatile size — balanced for newcomers and experienced shavers alike. The handle is intentionally left unwrapped. Nothing is added that the blade does not need — form follows function, and the clean result speaks for itself. The final sharpening was done by us, using a Nakayama-Nagura progression followed by our 0.5micron diamond edge suspension and stropped on Japanese Cordovan leather. Naguras used here were Tenjo, Meijiro and Koma.
