Gestrals really do be killing one another for the love of the game [Expedition 33] weekend 2

Let's play this game like a normal human being now. After some time thinking about it, I realized that even jrpg fans are divided into subsets of fanbases. There is no one truth amongst all jrpg fans for what'll make a good game or not, and the more someone will try to argue a game is good, the more likely it is that they are also downplaying or punching down on a different game- and potentially, a fanbase for said game. So I want to make it a point to say that pointing out similarities between Expedition 33 and Paper Mario, or other turn based rpgs that do similar realtime inputs during turn based combat, does not mean I am trying to diminish or disparage the game in any way. It's my frame of reference for the type of mechanics the game is attempting to execute on, and I understand that the game probably shares more similarities to classic Final Fantasy/Square Soft games than anything within the fringes of that huge franchise. I was enjoying trying to play the game like a traditional turn based game, but it's clear it's not designed in that way for general consumption. This game is clearly more fun playing it the way the devs hope you learn how to play it as, and I am enjoying the performances of the characters and interactions between them so far. It remains to be seen if the writing will land well with me, but as of right now, it is keeping my attention, and I can conceptually understand why this game was made in this way. Okay ramble done, stop reading.
