Rarely does a film tie-in game meet or exceed expectations. Unfortunately this game is no different. I will start off with the positive and say that graphically the game isn't all that bad. Not only does it look decent it also portrays the world of being a snail very well. The feeling of being a small snail in the world feels great. Unfortunately this is also a drawback of the game which I will explain. When I initially put this game into my 360 I was thinking it was a racing game but found it is actually more like a tony hawk game instead. The objective is to cruise around different environments from the film and complete objectives such as reaching a specific point score, collecting race flags and character tokens or even the letters to make the word Turbo. There are four different playable characters, each with their own unique skill. Skills vary between faster speeds and higher jumping. Otherwise all characters are pretty much the same with slight variations in stats for speed, balance, etc. The difference in stats honestly doesn't make a difference as each characters seems to handle exactly the same. The game handles in the same way as Tony Hawk but has poorer execution in game. Jumping out of a grind could send you 5 feet in the opposite direction your pushing the joystick which can become extremely frustrating. The main gameplay comprises of 3 minute runs on the levels and has you attempting to complete as many challenges as possible. When you complete some of them the game will reinstate the same challenge but at a higher level (difficulty). Beat the set score of 20,000 and the game will set a new challenge (level 2) of 50,000 and so on. And though there are little moments of joy in this game such as reaching a high ledge you spent almost the entire 3 minute run time to get there, they are few and far between and you will find yourself beating your controller or the wall while attempting to get there. There are many jumps and grinds that need to be timed perfectly to reach high off places and more than not you will find your character do something you didn't want it to do and you will fall back to the ground and have to go through the entire frustrating process all over again. There is a free play mode that I believe gives you unlimited time to explore the levels and try to accomplish levels but I played that mode as I didn't have enough fun or intrigue with this game to want to take it that far. Overall I believe this game would be fun for young kids but I doubt even they would spend too much time with this. I would pass on this game even if I could score it for $2. The gameplay itself gets old quick and there is no real motivation to complete challenges or progress through the game. Since my channel is about showing off Xbox 360 games I couldn't pass this up.
