In this lesson, we'll learn vocabulary and useful expressions for starting conversations, making friends, and staying in touch with people in French. Ideal for those traveling, studying, or living in a French-speaking country and wanting to connect with others in a natural and friendly way. 1. Starting a conversation Salut! Tu t’appelles comment ? – Hi! What's your name? Tu viens d’où ? – Where are you from? Tu fais quoi dans la vie ? – What do you do for a living? C’est ta première fois ici ? – Is this your first time here? Tu parles d’autres langues ? – Do you speak other languages? Example: Salut, moi c’est Ana. Je suis brésilienne. Et toi, tu viens d’où ? 2. Making invitations and exchanging contact information Tu veux prendre un café un de ces jours ? – Do you want to have a coffee one of these days? On peut échanger nos réseaux sociaux? – Can we exchange social networks? Are you on WhatsApp? / Are you on Instagram? – Do you have WhatsApp? / Are you on Instagram? On peut se retrouver demain ? – Can we meet tomorrow? Example: Si tu veux, je t’ajoute sur Insta et on se parle. 3. Maintaining the friendship Does it tell you to sort this week-end? – How about going out on the weekend? On va au ciné ou boire un verre? – Shall we go to the cinema or have something to drink? Where do I stay in contact? – Shall we keep in touch? It's nice to meet you again! – It was nice meeting you! You can tell me when you see it. – You can write to me whenever you want. 4. Informal and friendly expressions • Trop cool! – Very cool! • It's nice here. • You're very nice/friendly. • Can we use "tu"? (informal way of addressing someone) 5. Questions to create connection • What do you do during your free time? • Do you like music/sports/traveling? • Do you want to find a good place to eat? • Do you know any people around here? Making friends is a great way to practice French and feel welcome in another place. With these open phrases and attitudes, you can create bonds in a light and natural way.
