When the Fulness of Time Came: Every Prophecy Fulfilled in Christ

When the fulness of time came, God sent forth His Son. In this sermon from That Which May Be Known — Section 3: God Hath Revealed, we trace how every covenant God had sworn, every prophecy He had declared, and every thread of His eternal counsel converged in one Person — the Lord Jesus Christ. The sermon’s key text is Galatians 4:4–5, showing that Christ came at the appointed time, born of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. This sermon follows the fulfillment of prophecy from the incarnation to the ascension. The incarnation fulfilled the prophetic witness concerning Bethlehem, the virgin birth, the Word made flesh, and the Spirit’s anointing. The ministry of Christ fulfilled the prophetic catalog as He succeeded where Adam and Israel failed, brought light to Galilee of the Gentiles, healed as Isaiah foretold, and moved steadily toward the hour of the cross. In the betrayal, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection, the accumulated witness of centuries was enacted in three days. The thirty pieces of silver, the piercing, the suffering servant, the rich man’s tomb, and the resurrection were not accidents of history. They were the determinate counsel of God fulfilled in time. The New Covenant was ratified in Christ’s blood, and the redemption thread reached its fulfillment. The sermon then turns to the ascension, showing that Christ’s dominion was inaugurated heavenward. The Son of Man ascended to the right hand of the Father, Psalm 110 was enacted, Daniel 7 began to be fulfilled, and Christ was seated far above all principality and power. Yet the greatest disclosure remained: the mystery hidden in God from before the foundation of the world.
