Is This Vancouver Island’s MOST Beautiful Drive? (Sooke to Port Renfrew)

Is this Vancouver Island’s most beautiful drive? Today, we’re taking our 40-year-old Chevy G20 campervan along the WILD west coast of Vancouver Island, driving from Sooke towards Port Renfrew… and we were warned the road might not be the best idea! 👀 Despite the warning, we decided to give it a go, and this drive quickly became one of the most incredible journeys we’ve had since arriving in Canada... Along the way, we stop at Sandcut Beach and China Beach, walking through thick, mossy forests before emerging onto huge beaches surrounded by mountains, turquoise water and some of the most dramatic scenery we’ve seen so far on Vancouver Island... AND... every stop somehow seemed to get better than the last! 😮 Of course, it wasn’t all completely relaxing… the road eventually became much rougher than we expected, and then Josie spotted our FIRST black bear in Canada standing at the side of the road! 🤯🐻 We eventually make it to Port Renfrew, where we camp beside Fairy Lake in the rain, before heading out to explore Botanical Beach at low tide. After seeing a fresh “bear in area” sign, we walk through the forest to discover tide pools filled with hermit crabs, fish eggs, anemones and mussels, before spotting a mink on the rocks… and even a whale out at sea! 🐋 Guys, have you driven the west coast road from Sooke to Port Renfrew?
