In the latest construction site update, Eberhard Küssner, overall project manager for elevated highways at the Ludwigshafen Construction Project Company (BPG), explains the situation surrounding the Hochstraße Süd (South Elevated Highway) after July 4, 2026. Following the official opening ceremony, the new bridge on the Hochstraße Süd will reopen to traffic on Saturday, July 4, 2026. During the morning, traffic coming from the direction of Mannheim will be able to use the Hochstraße Süd all the way to the A650. The exits to Heinigstraße and Lorientallee will also be accessible again. Due to ongoing work on the Weiße Hochstraße (White Elevated Highway), traffic in the opposite direction, coming from the A650 towards Mannheim, will initially be directed to use the exit ramp towards the city center from the pylon bridge. They will then have the option of crossing Heinigstraße via a new connecting road and subsequently rejoining the Hochstraße Süd via the Saarlandstraße on-ramp. The Saarlandstraße on-ramp is expected to reopen on Saturday evening. An additional connection for traffic heading towards Mannheim is expected to be available next week, starting Thursday, July 9, 2026. Motorists will then be able to use the reopened Lorientallee on-ramp to access the Hochstraße Süd (South Elevated Highway) directly from the pylon bridge via the off-ramp. Until the Hochstraße Süd is fully completed, a truck ban will be in effect. A speed limit of 30 km/h will be in place in all sections where work is still being carried out while traffic continues to flow.
