There's nothing better than a great steak dinner at a traditional steakhouse. I recall back in Las Vegas, I got a chance to visit many great steakhouses; from the Iconic Peter Luger's to the traditional classic Oscar's Steakhouse. Well, I'm back in Vancouver and as the cold weather is moving in, there's nothing like getting together with some friend over a great steak dinner. This would a be a great opportunity to explore the great steakhouses in the city and it would be fun to find see what the difference is between a causal steakhouse with that of a high-end, fine dining steakhouse. Now, don't get me wrong, casual doesn't mean inexpensive...steaks and beef are expensive whether it's casual or not. I got to dine with my good friend Nicole as we first started exploring a casual steak spot call The Keg here in Canada... Will it compare to those in Vegas? It will be fun and fulfilling to find out! Best known for a think juicy prime rib, The Keg certainly didn't disappoint. We did stick to what they are known for... The prime rib of course, french onion soup, some crab cakes, ice cream pie... before you know it, we over-ordered... And while it was a hit and miss on some items, we decided that with al the food we had, we needed to enlist some help for the next day at the High-end Steakhouse experience. Enter James, who was gracious enough to help us tackle our mega steak meal and this time, it is at a high-end / fine dining spot known as Hy's Steakhouse. With the added help, we thought could have ordered more, and we did! From the table side prepared Caesar salad and the steak tartare, to the best oysters Rockefeller I've ever tasted, we over-ordered once again.. and that was just the appetizers. Steaks include a table side prepared and flambé'ed steak Diane, a thick juicy porterhouse and the flavourful dry-ages prime rib. Oh, and did I forget? We enjoyed great steakhouse burgers from both establishments! Thanks a ag great tip from the folks at Peter Luger's, getting a burger at a steakhouse is a pro tip. You get a trimmings and cuts from all the great steaks without the high cost. A great experience all in all and it certainly filled our bellies and emptied our wallets.
