Why Is God’s Name ‘I Am’?

Can we truly say that God’s name is ‘I am’? Rupert says: ‘Being doesn’t need a name – it simply is itself without a name. But if we want to speak of these matters, we have to use words and names. And when we give God a name, that is always the finite mind’s view of the infinite so, we should rather ask what name God would give itself. ‘And if God were to name itself, it would call itself “I” – because in English, “I” is the name given to that which knows itself. The statement “I am that I am” from the Old Testament represents the highest formulation of truth, and the knowledge “I am” is God’s knowledge of itself.
