◼︎ In June 2012, two massive wooden coffin tombs were excavated in Daeseong-dong, Gimhae. These tombs were designated Tomb 88 and Tomb 91, respectively. These two tombs offer crucial clues to unlocking the mysteries of Gaya history. Tomb 88 yielded a uniquely Japanese artifact, a corrugated bronzeware, while Tomb 91 yielded artifacts of Chinese Xianbei origin. Since the excavation of the Gaya tombs in Daeseong-dong began in 1990, this monumental achievement has garnered the attention of archaeologists from Korea, China, and Japan. The artifacts excavated from Tomb 91 primarily relate to horses. Three bodies discovered in the same tomb demonstrate the practice of burial. Both are unique to the culture of northern nomadic peoples, and scholars now believe that similar practices can be found in the tombs of the Xianbei people in China.
