David Walsh
In conversation with Julian Morrow, MONA owner/founder David Walsh talks about his memoir, and about risk, loss, chance and art. David Walsh is a multi-millionaire professional gambler, mathematician and founder/owner of the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart. In this talk, presented at Melbourne's Capitol Theatre, he chats with Julian Morrow about his memoir, A Bone of Fact, and the process of writing a book. 'The whole museum thing was just an iterative process,' he explains, 'whereas the book thing is something I always wanted to do.' He also talks about how his personality - which informs the cheeky, bold tone of MONA - has tempered over time, and confesses to his experiences of risk and loss in money, love and family. And he describes how his relationship with art has changed as he's moved through different roles and circles in the art world.
