The peaceful vibe of the lake and the rich stories behind the ancient cobblestone streets completely stole my heart. ✨ My Ohrid Travel Highlights (What We Visited): Swimming in Lake Ohrid & The Ultimate Sunset 🏊‍♂️🌅: Taking a dip in the crystal-clear, refreshing waters of Lake Ohrid—one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe—was an unforgettable experience. Watching the entire sky turn into shades of gold and purple as the sun went down over the water was easily one of the most magical sunsets of my life. St. John at Kaneo Church ⛪: Built back in the late 13th century (before the Ottoman Empire), this iconic church sits right on a cliff overlooking the lake. Standing there and taking in the panoramic views is a feeling that words simply cannot describe! Ancient Theatre of Ohrid 🏛️: Dating all the way back to 200 BCE during the Hellenistic period, this ancient open-air theater was later used by the Romans for fierce gladiator fights. Walking through the stone tiers felt like stepping right back into a history book. 💡 Fascinating History Behind This City: The Birth of the Cyrillic Alphabet: Did you know that the Cyrillic alphabet, used by over 250 million people across Europe today, traces its roots and early development right back to the literary schools of Ohrid? The "Jerusalem of the Balkans": Ohrid earned this legendary nickname because it famously used to house 365 churches—one for every single day of the year!
