Episode 1249 Hilda (Jean Alexander) grows frustrated as the street continues to gossip about Stan (Bernard Youens). Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) and Ernie (Stephen Hancock) decide to visit Jean Cooper (Margaret Shevlin) again. Hilda tells Jerry (Graham Haberfield) that she’s planning to call at 19 Inkerman Street. Minnie (Margot Bryant) and Albert (Jack Howarth) squabble over who should manage the community centre in Ena’s (Violet Carson) absence. When the Bishops visit Jean Cooper, they find Christine Peters (Frances Tomelty) staying there. Jean explains to the Bishops that Christine suffered a breakdown after her baby died and her husband walked out. When Stan comes home, Hilda tells him that Mrs. Regan is now living with another man. Ernie wants to report Christine to the police, but Emily tells him how Irma Barlow (Sandra Gough) once stole a baby and she helped cover it up. Ernie is appalled and vows to tell the authorities about Christine himself. Norma (Diana Davies) returns from seeing Jacko (Robert Keegan) and tells Jerry that he has pleaded guilty.
