#PanelTalk | The Evolving Economics and Distribution of Short Films | Kraków Film Festival

The festival circuit has long been a key meeting point for short films, but what role does it play today? Is the festival circuit still the primary “marketplace” for short films, or has its role shifted toward prestige, curation, and networking? How implicated are they, in perpetuating financing models that are becoming more and more challenging? What places do short films occupy alongside other short-form content on social media? Do shorts need a “new life” or a “new home”? Where in art, technology, education or our own localities do we find or can we create new and more impactful spaces for them and their audiences, both those established and those yet to be reached? Moderated by Savina Petkova (Talking Shorts), this conversation took place during the 66th edition of Kraków Film Festival with the participation of José Gil (Feel Sales), Robert Sowa (ASP Krakow, Centrum Animacji Kraków), Joanna Żak (Ale Kino! Festival), and Ambre Anagnostides (Miyu Distribution). This panel talk is part of a new series of discussions exploring alternatives in short-film exhibition, programming, and distribution, focusing on underrepresented, local, and political models of making and sharing films. The “Beyond Festivals” series brings together artists and cultural workers working beyond the ‘industry’, asking what happens “before” and “after” the festival circuit, with care for the longevity of the short film medium.
