The A4 B9 was officially unveiled online towards the end of June 2015. The vehicle was presented to the public at the International Motor Show (IAA) in September 2015 and was awarded the Golden Steering Wheel in the mid-size car category that same year. For the first time in the history of the A4, the notchback sedan and station wagon variants (Avant) were released simultaneously. The first models were delivered in October 2015. The B9 is based on the Volkswagen Group's further developed MLB platform "MLB Evo," which also underpins the second generation of the Audi Q7, launched in June 2015. The B9 series is manufactured at two production sites. While the sedan, Avant, and S models roll off the assembly line at the Audi plant in Ingolstadt, only the sedan is built in Neckarsulm. The Audi A4 B9 has the model series code F4. At the end of June 2018, an upgrade of the Audi A4 was introduced, differing primarily from its predecessor in the modified front and rear bumpers. At the rear, the round exhaust tailpipes were replaced by trapezoidal trim pieces in the bumper. In the sport and design trim lines, the appearance of the front bumper vents was changed, and the chrome trim strip at the rear was enlarged. Also new is the introduction of the revised engine designation, in which the previous displacement information is omitted and replaced by a number. The equipment remains unchanged; the only new feature is the optional Audi connect key, familiar from other models, which allows the vehicle to be locked and unlocked using an NFC-enabled Android smartphone. All engines with the facelift comply with the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard and are certified according to the new WLTP driving cycle, which has been mandatory for new vehicle models since September 1, 2018. At the beginning of July 2018, it was announced that the factory holidays for A4 and A5 production had to be extended by two weeks due to problems with WLTP certification. The previous 1.4-liter TFSI gasoline engine was replaced by a 2-liter TFSI engine. The gasoline engines also feature a particulate filter. Delivery of the first vehicles began at the end of October 2018. Two 2-liter gasoline and two diesel engines will be available at market launch. The previous model is currently still being produced with the 2.0 TFSI (140 kW/190 hp), 2.0 TDI (90 kW/122 hp), and 3.0 TDI quattro (160 kW/218 hp).
