When he was a student at Tokyo Metropolitan Magical Technical College, Suguru held a positive ethical view of the shamanic world, fervently believing that shamans existed to protect the weak—those who couldn't wield cursed energy. He would even become angry when Satoru Gojo disagreed, mocking Geto's opinion. Furthermore, after the events involving Riko Amanai and the sect that hired Toji Fushiguro to assassinate her, he forbade Gojo from killing the entire sect. From that point on, Suguru developed an absolute hatred for humans who couldn't use cursed energy, even going so far as to kill his own parents, who weren't shamans. He began referring to humans who couldn't use cursed energy as "monkeys," treating them with hatred and disgust, and rejecting anything they created.
