King Kalonga Sosola IX Leads Cultural Tribute at Kalonga Sosola VIII Tomb in Mankhamba, Dedza. His Majesty Kalonga Sosola IX on Saturday led a community ceremony to clear and preserve the resting place of the late Kalonga Sosola VIII in Mankhamba, Dedza District. The activity, locally known as dambule, brought together traditional leaders, village heads, and community members from Salima and surrounding districts in a show of unity and respect for the fallen king. Among the dignitaries present was Senior Chief Chadza alongside several village heads from the area. The delegation was welcomed by Village Headman Kamala and Group Village Headman Kakhome of Mankhamba, as well as members of the royal family. Speaking during the ceremony, community leaders commended His Majesty Kalonga Sosola IX for remembering and paying homage to the late king by organizing the clean-up exercise at the tomb. “This gesture shows respect for our cultural heritage and the legacy of our forefathers,” one of the traditional leaders said during the event. The ceremony was also marked by vibrant cultural performances, particularly the famous Gule Wamkulu dance, which entertained guests and symbolized the preservation of Malawi’s rich cultural traditions. The event highlighted the importance of unity, cultural preservation, and remembrance of traditional leaders who played a significant role in the history of the great Chewa people.
