A November 26, 1934 recording of Arthur Rubinstein playing the Bach-Busoni Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue in C Major BWV 564. This transfer was effected by Tom Jardine, to whom all thanks, from an original set of 78rpm discs in his personal collection. Set down at EMI's Abbey Road Studio No.3, this recording captures the pianist in a majestic account of this once popular transcription. What a robust singing sound, wonderfully defined articulation, transparent textures, and magnificently vibrant rhythm, all serving his noble, refined, and dramatic interpretation. Glorious!
