MK Party MP Vusi Shongwe took the stand at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, delivering explosive testimony centred entirely on suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major-General Feroz Khan. Shongwe told the commission that on 8 March 2026, he was summoned to Durban via a call from Jacob Zuma's personal assistant, Lindiwe Xulu, believing the meeting concerned MK Party support. Instead he found himself at DRK Tactical's offices in Morningside, in a 40-minute meeting with tobacco businessman Yusuf Kajee and a man known only as "Imran." During a video call, a tearful Khan reportedly told him: "You are suffocating me." What followed, according to Shongwe, was an escalating attempt to buy his silence — a R2 million security tender linked to Checkers, a R2.2 million-a-month security contract, three bulletproof BMWs, and finally R10 million in cash, all aimed at stopping his pursuit of Khan through Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee on SAPS. Shongwe also accused EFF leader Julius Malema of actively shielding Khan from appearing before the Ad Hoc Committee, telling the commission that combined MKP, DA and ANC numbers could have outvoted those blocking Khan's appearance — but Malema was "the most vocal" against it. The MP said he never opened a criminal case over the alleged bribe, choosing instead to report it to Zuma and the Ad Hoc Committee, and told the commission that had the R10 million actually been handed over, he would have given it to charities and the homeless before exposing the scheme. This testimony comes as Khan's own commission appearance — originally set for 1 July — now hangs in the balance following his hospitalisation after a suspected targeted shooting in Houghton, Johannesburg, over the weekend. Khan remains out on R20,000 bail on charges relating to the Precious Metals Act following his arrest in May.
