Cortázar was born in Belgium, a detail I've corrected here because in the video I said he was born in Argentina. This information is meant to appease the nitpickers. Cortázar probably didn't care; he identified as Argentinian. But, as we all know, it's impossible to please everyone on the internet. — In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Julio Cortázar published two of his most important theoretical texts on the modern short story: the articles "Some Aspects of the Short Story," in the journal Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos, and "On the Short Story and Its Surroundings," in his literary collage Último round. These texts are considered by academia and, in general, by contemporary short story writers, as two fundamental contributions to understanding the genre. Through these texts, Julio Cortázar offered us a highly personal vision of the short story, as well as a methodological proposal based on his own creative experience.
