At the beginning of the conference, Gemayel stated, "The land will not be liberated, the displaced will not return, there will be no reconstruction, peace will not be achieved in Lebanon, investment and the economy will not recover, expatriates will not return, and job opportunities will not be created as long as militia weapons remain on our land." He added, "Anything else is merely postponing the problems and laying the groundwork for new wars and crises." He added that “Iran has dragged Lebanon into the negotiations because it wants to maintain its military arm and arsenal, represented by Hezbollah,” considering this “not a defense of Lebanon, but rather a new entanglement of it in successive crises.” Gemayel continued, “Lebanon has paid a heavy price, far exceeding what Iran has offered, while the Lebanese have no connection to the Iranian nuclear program or the conflicts of others,” asking, “Why should we pay the price?” He said that “the American-Iranian negotiations confirm that there is no solution except for Hezbollah to surrender its weapons to the state,” calling for de-escalation in political rhetoric and respect for the suffering of the Lebanese people. He affirmed that “there will be no coexistence with weapons outside the framework of the state, regardless of the outcome of the external negotiations,” stressing the necessity for everyone to abide by the state and the law. In a related context, Gemayel said that “Lebanon’s Shiites are experiencing the greatest calamity since the establishment of the Lebanese state,” considering that Iran “is trying to maintain this political leverage.” He added that “the solution lies in the establishment of a true state that imposes its authority over all its territory, and that the Lebanese will not accept remaining hostages to any armed force.” In closing, he emphasized that “Lebanon will move towards stability when all weapons are exclusively in the hands of the Lebanese army,” affirming the continued efforts “to achieve an Israeli withdrawal and disarm the militias.” Gemayel also published a series of statements on the “X” platform, confirming ongoing communication with both domestic and international stakeholders, and supporting the state’s efforts to assert its sovereignty and implement its decisions, while stressing that “the Lebanese army is the primary guarantor at this stage.”
