Konark is a medium town in the Puri district in the State of Odisha, India. It lies on the coast by the Bay of Bengal. 65kms from the Bhubaneswar. It is site of the 13th century SUN TEMPLE, also known as the BLACK PAGODA, built in black granite during the reign of Narasinghadeva-1. The temple is a World Heritage . KONARK is also home to an annual dance festival called KONARK DANCE FESTIVAL. Dedicated to the Hindu Sun God Surya. The temple complex has the appearance of a 100-foot high chariot with immense wheel and horses all carved from stone. It is a classic illustration of the Odisha style of Architecture or Kalinga Architecture. This temple is called 'Black Pagoda '. It remains a major pilgrimage site for Hindus who gathere here every year for Chandrabhaga Mela.
