NYC: Rauschenberg at Guggenheim Museum + Gabriele Münter Art Walkthrough | Sotheby's Breuer Building

Step inside Robert Rauschenberg: Life Can’t Be Stopped at the Guggenheim Museum — a special exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Rauschenberg’s birth. Plus experience Gabriele Münter: Contours of a World and a quick walk through the Upper East Side to Sotheby's Breuer Building. The Robert Rauschenberg: Life Can’t Be Stopped “Collection in Focus” presentation brings together key works from the Guggenheim’s collection alongside important loans from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. A highlight of the show is the monumental Barge (1962–63) — a 32-foot-long silkscreen painting co-owned by the Guggenheim in New York and Bilbao. This marks its first return to NYC in nearly 25 years, and seeing it in person reveals the full complexity of Rauschenberg’s image-based experimentation, layered materials, and boundary-pushing approach to painting, printmaking, and collage. We then explore the museum’s beautiful exhibition of Gabriele Münter, co-founder of Der Blaue Reiter and a pioneering Expressionist. Her bold color, intimate portraits, and stylized landscapes create a vibrant counterpoint to the museum’s architecture. After the exhibitions, we stop at the Guggenheim Café Rebay for a quick snack with stunning views overlooking Central Park and Fifth Avenue — one of the most peaceful spots in the museum. From there, we walk along Madison Avenue to see the new Sotheby’s headquarters inside the iconic Breuer Building. The line wrapped around the block, so we’ll return another day — but the walk through the Upper East Side is a beautiful part of the journey. The video ends with quiet views of Central Park, closing out a full evening of art, architecture, and NYC atmosphere. If you enjoy NYC gallery walks, museum visits, and quiet ambient city videos with original music, I hope you enjoy this one. *Artists' protest letter to James Johnson Sweeney, New York, N.Y., 1956: https://www.aaa.si.edu/collections/it... ►► Subscribe for more NYC art-focused videos:    / @soundsofny   Want more on the Guggenheim?
