The anniversary of a death is a ritual and offering of the Cham people. After a year of wandering in the mortal world, the first anniversary ceremony helps to purify and cleanse the soul of the deceased from all worldly dust. The Cham Brahman people believe that after cremation, the soul of the deceased cannot immediately return to their ancestors but must go through periodic ceremonies: 3 days, the first month, and most importantly, the first year. #champa
