Agricultural Pesticides Pesticide Formulation Pesticide Formulation The most important ingredient in a pesticide that works actively against target pests is called the active ingredient (or technical ingredient). In pesticide manufacturing plants, this active ingredient is not produced in its pure form but is mixed in small amounts with other carrier ingredients. High concentrations of this active ingredient cannot be used until its physical form and properties are changed and mixed with other ingredients (Ministry of Health, 2012). This mixing is done to ensure the active ingredient is easy to store and transport, and can be used safely, effectively, and economically. The finished product, which is a physical mixture of the active ingredient and inactive additives (inert ingredients), is called a formulated product.
