Today's video is change of direction speed training for elite athletes. We have one of our elite level soccer players in here, as she's training to play division 1 college soccer. The goal of today's training session is to improve our lateral speed so that we can be really fast, quick, and explosive going side to side with shuffles. We start off with some plyometrics to work on reactive speed, then we move into more speed drills for lateral speed. We progress this session from lateral speed to lateral change of direction where we go from a lateral shuffle into opening our hips to a 45º shuffle. Then we work on the ability to go from a shuffle to a sprint, so quickly being able to turn our hips and get out into a sprint. It's all about keeping our feet under us, being quick and reactive, and producing force.
