The members hail from Cork, Galway, Dublin, Munich, Liverpool and their name Lands End, pays tribute to the fact that each member comes from a different geographical location. Land's End also recognises a Tim O'Brien tune of the same name, which was the first piece of music they played together as a group. Although their music is strongly embedded in the bluegrass tradition, with double bass, dobro, 5 string banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle, each member brings the distinctive sound of their own musical tradition to the musical arrangements of Lands End.
