대영박물관이 소장한 60억 원짜리 달항아리는 얼마에 샀을까?

There is a small seaside town called St Ives in Cornwall, England. It is home to a pottery gallery and studio that is very special not only to Koreans but also to the British. Established in 1920 by the British potter Bernard Leach, this studio holds a unique history. Bernard Leach learned pottery while living in Japan and later traveled to Korea—the spiritual home of Japanese ceramics. During his travels, he purchased a Moon Jar and brought it back to England. At the time, he reportedly bought this Joseon-era masterpiece at an antique shop in Insadong for just 10 yen—the price of two sacks of rice in the 1920s. Today, these jars are incredibly valuable, with one recently fetching 6 billion KRW (approx. $4.5 million) at a Christie’s auction in New York. The famous Moon Jar currently on display in the Korea Gallery at the British Museum is the very one that Leach acquired all those years ago. In this video, I visit The Leach Pottery, founded by Bernard Leach. I’ll be meeting his 'artistic descendants' from all over the world and capturing the beautiful process of how they create their ceramics.
