Today I took a relaxing walk along the beach during low tide in Qingdao, China. The tide had gone out so far that the beach seemed endless. Local residents were out collecting clams, razor shells, and other seafood hidden beneath the wet sand — a traditional coastal activity known as "Gan Hai" (sea foraging). As I walked from the Coral Hotel area toward the Sheraton Hotel, the sound of the waves slowly grew louder as I finally reached the water's edge. Later, I passed through the nearby mangrove park, where families were enjoying the afternoon and children were feeding pigeons.
