Today, we're going to talk about preload adjusters, more specifically, how to make it super easy. So the standard shock from WP come with this plastic preload collar works great, but oftentimes they're very hard to access and adjust. And if you can't get to it or it's hard, you aren't going to mess with it. You're not going to check sag and your bike might not handle that well. So what is this thing and wants to do? It sits on top of the spring. I may have seen it. You've never adjusted it. This is how you adjust sag on the motorcycle. sag is one of the most important things you can do to make your bike handle properly and fit it to you for your weight. This is the standard preload collar. Not too hard to adjust. It's plastic. It's okay. Over time you can get dirt in there. Makes it difficult or heck, the motorcycles are just darn near impossible to get to this. So adding an XTrig mechanical preload adjuster can make your life so much easier. And if it's easy, you're more likely to do it. You're more likely to have a better handling motorcycle. So here we have a standard KTM EXC shock. We've replaced the stock preload collar with the XTrig. So how do I make adjustments? So the beauty of this XTrig is that it makes the process easy, like I said. But how do I make adjustments? What makes it easy? Standard setup jam-nut lock color. You have to physically turn this by hand. That can get complex. You're busting your knuckles. No one has any fun doing that. When the XTrig installed, it uses a worm gear to add or subtract preload from the spring. Now you can notice I'm doing this by hand with the T handle. There are some delicate pieces in here we'll get to, but you do not want to use an impact gun. So if you're in a hurry, like me or any racer, you might find you want to grab a drill, do not use your impact gun. That is a no no. High torque drill totally fine. Just as acceptable as using a hand T handle as long as there is no impact function Clockwise puts more preload on the spring counterclockwise, it takes it off. So let's talk about what's going on inside here. How does it work? How is it lubricated? Here's a brand new one. Here's one that's disassembled. You'll see when the adjuster is interlocked with the collar itself, it's clear that as you turn this, it will make adjustments either way. So you can see here these offset steel dry pins help turn the collar. But the adjuster mechanism itself is aluminum. If you use an impact gun, the probability of breaking this is quite high. So we all know measuring and checking sag can make your motorcycle handle better. If adjusting the standard preload collar is a pain in the butt, an XTrig might be for you. Thanks for watching.
