Universal Audio 1176 Hardware vs. Waves: Which Compressor Wins?

Can the Waves emulation of the UA 1176 compressor hold up to the real thing? While both the CLA-76 and hardware UA 1176LN versions are easy to come by, most budget minded engineers may have only had the chance to use a plug-in version. To help those who might be looking to make the upgrade to the analog world, we will compare these compressors on two sound sources: snare drum and bass drum (kick drum). We'll record these tracks initially, duplicate them, and then re-amp for purposes of the hardware version.
